Stefano Cardinale

Professional Experience

Mr. Stefano Cardinale is a registered lawyer at the Barcelona (Spain) Bar Association, and at the Rome (Italy) Bar Association, where he practices as international lawyer, professional mediator, cross culture negotiator and conflict management consultant for businesses. His professional activity is mainly focused in giving legal and strategic consulting to American, European, Asian and Latin American companies, P.E. Funds, Institutional Investors and businesses in corporate law, internationalization, international commercial and trade law, international ADR and international M&A in the areas of Tourism, Retail, Energy and information technology. In the Energy sector he has extensive knowledge and practice of the legal consultancy and representation of prime EPC Contractors in renewable energies project, with particular focus on photovoltaic, wind and green hydrogen plants.

He practices international commercial law, Energy Law, international trade law, EU Law and International ADR, in which he has an extensive knowledge, having practiced international commercial mediation for the last 20 years in USA, Spain and Italy for the most reputed international providers, among which ICC Paris. He has been external independent expert of the EU Commission. In 2015 & 2016 he was member of the Scientific Committee of the Rome Bar Association Commission on International & European Fund Raising. Between 2016 and 2021 he has been international master trainer for Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. In 2018 he was consultant of the Albanian Government and of Albanian companies in the areas of infrastructure and aviation.

From 2006 to 2010 he was co-manager of a mediation center and Italian law consultant at Gimenez Salinas law firm in Barcelona (www.gimenez-salinas.es). He has been co-founder, partner, mediator and trainer of Deconflict (www.deconflict.eu), a former ADR provider and the first Italian mediators training center authorized in 2006 by the Italian Minister of Justice with more than 400 mediators and branches all over the country.

He is founder and CEO of SC Legal Consulting, a law firm with offices in Rome and Barcelona and associated firms in India and Chile. (www.sclegalconsulting.eu) which in 2015 merged with other 2 Italian law firms and their respective international partners, to create an international network of law firms, Legal and Consulting International ( www.lci.consulting ) of which Mr. Cardinale is the head of the international department, having contributed to the network with his offices and associated law firms in Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, India and Chile.

In 2012 Mr. Cardinale co-founded Medialogos, a non for profit organization for the promotion of mediation and peaceful conflict resolution in family, criminal, educational and environmental matters. In 2013 Mr. Cardinale co-founded Amargi, a non for profit organization focused on international cooperation and protection of human rights in countries affected by civil wars (www.amargi-international.org), which was mainly focused on the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

 

Academic & Training Experience

From 2007 to 2010 Mr. Cardinale has been academic director of 2 LLM Programs in ISDE (Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía – University of Barcelona – www.isdemasters.com ) where he has also been Academic Director of a Spanish Law Programme for foreign lawyers; from 2005 to 2012 he regularly delivered international mediation, conflict management and negotiation lectures in the said Institution. He has been international & comparative ADR visiting faculty at Universidad Abat Oliva CEU, Barcelona campus.

He has been mediators trainer in the most prestigious Indian Universities, such as Gujarat National Law University, National Law University Jodhpur and Tata Institute for Social Sciences. He has been guest speaker in international conflict management and mediation lectures at the World Trade Center of San Diego, at University of California San Diego (USA), at the American Chamber of Commerce of Milan, at the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), at Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, at Verona University, at Padova University (Italy), at Kharkov Law School (Ukraine), at Bar Council of India Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 2012 (India). In 2011 he was trainer of crisis negotiation techniques for police officers at “Scuola Superiore dell’Amministrazione dell’Interno” (SSAI) in Italy.

Education

He got his law degree from “Università La Sapienza” in Rome with a final dissertation on the EU protection of childish work. He earned a scholarship to specialize in international law, European Union law and International protection of human rights at “Universidad De Deusto” in Bilbao, (Spain). He earned a scholarship to do research for his final dissertation at I.A.L.S. (Institute of Advanced Legal Studies) in London (UK) where he has also studied legal english and worked for 1 year. He earned his L.L.M. at the I.S.D.E. – Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía – University of Barcelona, with a specialty in International Practice of Law and International Trade Law. In 2011 He specialized in restorative justice and victim’s rights at C.R.I.S.I. center (Bari – Italy). In 2012 he specialized in European and International Fund Raising at the Citizens of Europe Assotiation. In 2015 he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Law at the Business School “Il Sole 24 Ore Formazione ed Eventi”. In 2017 he earned the “Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration” issued by University Roma Tre, International Chamber of Commerce, Associazione Italiana per l’Arbitrato, Camera Arbitrale di Milano, in partnership with Consiglio Nazionale Forense, Italian Forum for Arbitration and ADR, Unidroit and Cleary Gottlieb.

Internships

Mr. Cardinale’s experience includes an internship and a law clerk role with Mullerat law firm in Barcelona (2004) and an internship with Bridge Mediation L.L.C. in San Diego, California, (U.S.A.) (2005 and 2006) to specialize in mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), where he also practiced as mediator in the Small Claim Court of Chula Vista.

Publications

Mr. Cardinale has collaborated in writing various articles, among them “Mediation and Culture,” about the influence of cultural differences in the international mediation’s field, “Más casos,

 

menos pleitos”, about the importance of mediation clauses in civil and commercial contracts, “L’impercettibile arte del bravo mediatore” about mediation techniques applied by mediators in the mediation process and “La mediazione in Europa, uno studio comparato fra Spagna e Italia”, which is a comparative study about mediation legislation in European Union, Spain and Italy. He co-authored the book “Mediazione e Conciliazione, diritto interno, comparato e internazionale” published in Italy by CEDAM in 2011 and the book “Guide to Practice of Mediation & Negotiation” published in India by Eastern Book Company in 2019.

Since 2020 Mr. Cardinale is member of the Editorial Committee of the ADR Journal named “Mediares” (www.mediaresrivista.it)

Languages

Mr. Cardinale speaks and write Italian, fluent business and legal English (Cambridge First Certificate), fluent business and legal Spanish (Cervantes) and some basic Catalan.
